Manicures: Do your own and save money

We love to have you come to our nail salon to get your manicure. After all that’s how we make our living and we do enjoy taking nails from shabby to glorious. It’s not always possible however for you to go to the nail salon for a manicure. You may not have time. The salon may be fully booked the day you have free. You may wish to save money because funds are tight. Whatever the reason these tips will help you achieve that salon look without going to the salon.

Here are the steps:

  • Make sure to remove any old nail polish completely. You may wish to soak your nails in warm water to soften the cuticles for 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Apply cuticle oil to your nails at the base of the cuticle and let it soak for another 1 to 2 minutes. Olive oil will work if you don’t have cuticle oil.
  • Push back your cuticles using a cuticle pusher or an orangewood stick. You don’t want to cut them because cuticles are there to protect you from infection. Tip: You may even use a popsicle stick if you don’t wish to purchase anything special for your nails.
  • Dry your nails completely.
  • Cut, trim and file your nails to your desired length and style.
  • Exfoliate: scrub your hands with a body scrub or make your own with sugar, lemon, vanilla drops, and olive oil. Your hands will feel and look amazing after.
  • Apply your favorite hand moisturizer and let dry.
  • Apply a base coat of polish carefully making sure not to paint over your fingers. Keep the base coat on the nails, but don’t drip or overflow.
  • Apply your top coat twice. Do this carefully and with even motion. Let dry.

As with anything the more you do your own manicures the better you’ll get. Don’t be discouraged the first time. If you have questions on how to do it correctly, just ask next time you are in the salon. We are here to help you.

Utah Nails – a summary

In Utah nails are well taken care of by the hundreds of nail technicians that live in the State. Utah just like every other State has licensing requirement for those that do manicures and pedicures.

To get a nail license a person must have 300 hours of education in nails and pass an exam by the Utah State Board of Cosmetology. Once the requirements have been met a license to act as a nail technician is granted. This license must be renewed each year and must be displayed somewhere in the nail salon at which the person works.

You might be amused to find that a lot of nail technicans are from Vietnam and speak Vietnamese. The nail exam however is all in English so they do understand English so don’t take for granted that you can talk about them or on the phone without them knowing what you are saying. Often they will converse in Vietnamese with each other while you are getting a pedicure or manicure. That can be frustrating because you have no idea if they are talking about you or about the latest soap opera.

In Utah nails are harder to take care of in winter because of cold weather, central heating and lack of exercise that often comes with cold weather. It is important to eat healthy, exercise, and have regular manicures if you want your finger nails to look their very best.

The dry air in the State also affects finger nails. At nearly a mile high we don’t have the moist air that a lot of eastern States enjoy. Dry air has benefits. Cold air doesn’t feel as cold and it doesn’t get muggy in the summer. That’s Utah! Nails suffer a bit from the dry air and it’s up to you to take care of them.

Finding a salon in Utah is a breeze. You’ll be amazed at the number of nail salons in any Utah town or city. It seems there is a big market for nail care in Utah.

These days it’s not just women. Many men enjoy the benefits of clean heathly nails and a soothing pedicure. What used to be taboo is now being accepted by men. Men that are professionals and office workers what to look their best too.

The state of Utah nails is fantastic. If you are visiting you’ll have no trouble finding someone to take care of your nails while here. Many resorts offer nail technician services as do many hotels in the major cities.

If you live in Utah you know that the local nail salon offers the best prices and personal service not found in tourist areas. The salon may not be fancy or as high brow as a resort salon, but they’ll often remember you and know what you like.

Getting a Pedicure for Men….My experience

Most men walk right on past the Nail Salon without a thought. Either that or they drop off their wife or girlfriend and go to the local hardware store to browse for the other type of nails. There are growing numbers of men however that are finding out that there is actual value to visiting the nail salon to get a pedicure.

A lot of men would ask “What is a pedicure?” While it sounds like some cure for your bicycle it’s actually a pleasureful pampering of your feet.

I hate people touching my feet and the first time I tried a pedicure I had a hard time sitting still. I was afraid the technician would cut me. I didn’t like the too familiar proximity of another woman touching my feet.

Oh… the technician for me must be female. The same goes for a massage. I’m not about to let a male touch me. Call me irrational, but that’s the way it is.

A pedicure as I have discovered can make the feet feel fantastic. Once I got over the reluctance to have another person touching my feet I started to relax and enjoy. My fear of being cut by the technician is mostly baseless. Of course I choose a very experienced nail person and have not had the courage to try a nail student even if the cost is much less.

Speaking of fears, I also didn’t want to be seen inside a nail salon getting a pedicure. I avoid places like Wal-Mart nail salons here people can walk by and see me. My choice of a salon is one like LA Nails in American Fork where it’s a standalone salon and less chance of anyone seeing me with my feet wet.

For me, dead skin on my feet is an issue. The pedicure technician has a file type instrument that shaves away the dead skin on my heals. It removes all that buildup and makes my feet look and feel fresh and new. The solution I soak in gives the feel a tingling “just awakened” feel.

Sitting in the pedicure chair with its massage feature on, watching the big screen TV, and having someone work on my feet seems almost indulgent. I’m like a King being pampered and it only costs a few bucks. Sometimes I almost drool on myself.

The biggest benefit to a pedicure however is the way my wife treats me afterward. I feel fantastic and perhaps my attitude is brighter, but she seems to smile more and treat me with respect. Perhaps it’s because she knows my feet are clean and neat or perhaps it’s just that I’ve entered into her world for an hour or so. Whatever the reason it’s there is a tangible improvement in our relationship when I get a pedicure.

The more pedicures I get the more men I see at the salon. I’m not alone! That’s a big relief. The guys that come are not whims either. Some of them are big burly logger type guys that just like to have their feet groomed. Perhaps they also like the cute female technicians. I can’t comment on that officially without causing an incident at home. Let’s just say I’ve noticed that some technicians are pleasing to the eye as well as being effective in making my feet feel wonderful.

5. if you have pumice stone at your place then warm it in warm water and rub your finger tips with it. It is excellent in removing the stains from your finger tips which is full of moisture.
